World Rheumatology Forum Summit Wraps Up Successful Two-Day Conference in Chennai

Chennai, India – March 19, 2024 – The World Rheumatology Forum Summit concluded its highly anticipated two-day conference, “Rheumatology Master Classes,” on March 17th, 2024, in Chennai. The event drew over 400 delegates from various countries including India, the UK, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

Dr. Kavitha MM, the scientific chairperson of the conference and a senior consultant rheumatologist at Kauvery Hospital, Kovilambakkam, introduced the theme of the conference, which focused on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS), and pregnancy in rheumatic diseases.

Experts in the field addressed various aspects of these conditions during the conference. Dr. Ed Vital from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and tailored treatment for SLE patients. Dr. Natasha Jordan from Trinity Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, highlighted the significance of screening for APS in females with repeated pregnancy losses, stressing the need for precise diagnosis and systematic management. Moreover, Dr. Manish Rathi, a professor of nephrology at PGIMER Chandigarh, provided insights into optimizing the management of SLE in patients with kidney involvement.

The conference also featured presentations of over 20 difficult cases by young rheumatologists and trainees, along with electronic posters showcasing research and cases by more than 150 doctors. Special emphasis was placed on providing exposure to internal medicine trainees, encouraging them to pursue rheumatology as a specialty.

A highlight of the event was an international quiz for rheumatology trainees, which saw participation from teams representing India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

The summit concluded with a panel discussion led by Dr. Bimlesh Dhar Pandey, a senior consultant rheumatologist at Fortis Hospital, Noida, addressing various issues related to pregnancy in rheumatic diseases.
